I'm Taj Weekes, a reggae artist and philanthropist hailing from Saint Lucia. My musical journey started amidst the vibrant culture of my homeland, fostering a profound love for Caribbean sounds and a strong sense of social responsibility.
With my band 'Adowa,' we've crafted 7 albums delving into social and political issues. Notably, "Deidem," our 2008 album, clinched "Best Reggae Album" at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards, earning recognition from the Houston Chronicle as one of the top 25 reggae albums in its history. The new Alpum is out now and avaliable on all Platforms to download!
The new Album "Eyes to See" from Taj goin up today (5th September 2024) listed on iTunes Reggae Chart at #3 and is already placed to the Grammy Awards 2025!
Beyond the realm of music, I've channeled my passion into philanthropy through They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO) since 2005. TOCO is dedicated to aiding underprivileged Caribbean youth, extending support through sports, education, and wellness programs, from soccer equipment to healthcare enhancements.
I identify myself as deeply intertwined with activism and advocacy, embodying a life committed to conscientious artistry and humanitarian efforts. My focus on social justice, environmental responsibility, and uplifting the marginalized resonates through the core of my music and philanthropic work. I'm honored to serve as the UNICEF Champion for Children of Saint Lucia and the Goodwill Ambassador.
In essence, my journey weaves together the melodies of reggae, the rhythms of philanthropy, and the harmonies of advocacy, creating a narrative that transcends borders and speaks to the universal language of positive change.
