Arts Council of Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland’s distinctive traditional music occupies a special place in our culture, contributing as much to the richness of our society as to our wider artistic reputation. The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has a strategic undertaking to develop the traditional musics of the region, and we endorse an ambitious, dynamic and cohesive approach to world music in general.

We are working with the other Arts Councils across the UK and Ireland to build a collective approach to the development of world music from these Islands. In the interests of developing markets and audiences for our artists and, more broadly, raising the cultural and creative profile of Northern Ireland, we are collaborating with our partners to increase international performance opportunities and strengthen connections with overseas artists.
