Aynur is the most prominent and influential Kurdish singer of our times From her beginnings in the mountains of Turkey's Dershim Province to her move to Istanbul in 1992, her studies in saz and türkü singing, her first recordings in 2004 and through to international success and collaborations with artists such as Yo Yo Ma in his Silk Road Ensemble, Kayhan Kalhor, and Javier Limon, she has carried her love for the musical heritage of her cultural roots to the world. As Yo Yo Ma put it: “To hear Aynur’s voice is to hear the transformation of all the layers of human joy and suffering into one sound. It reaches so deep into our soul, tears into our hearts, and then we are for one moment, joined as one. It is unforgettable”.
