Slovak super-group Bashavel was formed in 2006 as a joint project of five acclaimed musicians from the worlds of jazz and folk music with the aim of creating a contemporary melding of the two languages. Taking traditional folk melodies as motifs, the quintet embark on bravura displays of virtuosic improvisation, exhibiting seamless, and seemingly effortless, interplay between cimbalom player Marcel Comendant, pianist Klaudius Kovac and violinist Stanislav Paluch, driven along by the expressive rhythm section of bass-player Robert Ragan and drummer Peter Solarik. Although no strangers to concert and festival stages in Slovakia and Europe, they only released their long-awaited debut album, Hoorhay, in 2016. Fittingly, it won the Best Jazz Album category at the 2017 Radio Head Awards and reached the upper regions of World Music Charts Europe in 2018.
