Reminiscence is the third album by Tita Nzebi, released under the BIBAKA Music label, following her acclaimed works Métiani and From Kolkata. Produced and arranged by the talented multi-instrumentalist Leny Bidens, the album carries the mark of a long and fruitful collaboration that began years ago at Studio Thérapie with Leny’s father, Sec Bidens.
This opus brings together tradition and modernity in a unique fusion of African rhythms and contemporary sounds, deeply rooted in Nzebi and Bantu heritage while opening space for innovation. Recorded in Paris, mixed between France and England, and mastered in Germany by Stefan Heger of the Recording Academy, the album showcases an international level of artistry and technical refinement.
A Journey Through Themes and Voices
Across its ten tracks, Reminiscence explores themes central to Tita’s art:
Family and the transmission of values (Mbama, Etc.) – with an exceptional father–son guitar duo by Sec and Leny Bidens.
Cultural memory and heritage (Reminiscence) – built upon fragments of forgotten tales, symbolically carried by the traditional Gabonese zither.
Social injustices and hidden truths (31 août).
Humanity, forgiveness, and respect (Nzembi – God), echoing the spirit of her earlier L’ghôbe.
The natural flow of quarrels and reconciliation (Ba’ate), featuring Finnish soprano Aino Peltomaa in a radiant duet.
The album also embraces Congolese male choirs, evoking the sounds that shaped Tita’s childhood in M’bigou, where her father’s shop often resonated with music from the Democratic Republic of Congo. These voices, rooted in memory and history, enrich the album with depth and authenticity.
A Voice of Authenticity
Recognized as one of the most emblematic voices of Gabon, Tita Nzebi delivers here an album that is both intimate and universal—an artistic bridge between generations, cultures, and continents.
