acoustic & electronic hurdy-gurdy
Matthias Loibner plays hurdy-gurdy in an unheard-of way. He treats his instrument tenderly or relentlessly and oscillates between nearly forgotten and newly found sounds - from ancient music to experimental dancefloor in solo-concerts, in a duo ("Ajvar&Sterz" with Bosnian singer Natasa Mirkovic-DeRo and "FIDIBUS" with Austrian quarter-tone trumpet player Franz Hautzinger) and in orchestras. He also plays with Ross Daly, deishovida and with Christophe Coin and Ensemble Baroque de Limoges he is performing the very rare Instrument Lira Organizzata, a special reconstruction.
In 1994 Matthias Loibner won the first prize at the "Concours de vielles et cornemuse", St. Chartiers. He has taken part in numerous film-and theatre-productions. In summer 2006 his Solo-CD "passages" was released in Paris at Phillipe Kruemm's label "cinqu planetes" and won the "Pasticcio-Preis" of Austrian Radio Oe1.
His newest CD-production -Schubert's WINTERREISE (version for voice & hurdy-gurdy, with Natasa Mirkovic-DeRo) will be released in Nov 10 @ RAUMKLANG records.
