THE OTIS REDDING SHOW - 50º ANIVERSARY OF DEATH OF THE SOUL LEGEND
More than a homage to the biggest soulman from all times. A vigorouse revision of his legacy in a Soul show with a very carefully chosen repertoire avoiding to sucumb on nostalgia, but with all the weigh of the legacy of the "King of Soul". . Six musicians and six vocalists on stage, in a show managed by Lalo López, guitar player and composer at Fundación Tony Manero.
When the 50 year's anniversary of the death of the myth has arrived, along with the 50th anniversary of the issue of his posthumous record "Sittin on The Dock Of The Bay", the black music scene from Barcelona pays tribute to Otis Redding in a show that revitalizes his classical tunes ("/Can'tTurnALooseYou", the explosive cover of "Satisfaction" that the Rolling Stones considered that was better than their original, "Mr.Pitiful" or "Try A Little Tenderness" among others) and recoups some tunes that he never performed live as the endearing "Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa (Sad Song)", the Rhythm&Bluesy "Love Man" or the groovie "Hard To Handle".
And they do it with an all-star band with the best musicians of the soul, funk scene from Catalonia: on vocals Paquito Sex Machine, singer at Fundación Tony Manero and MichelClavero, The soul brother number one and lider of the pioneer soul band Café Soul, Michel Makon, a very young promising black singer. Providing their personal style, they give to the repertoire of the myth from Macon a new froce, backed by a solid rhythm section and without concessions formed by Lalo López on guitar, Manu Davobe, from Los Fulanos, on organ, piano and vocals, Hector Moras, from Chocadelia Internacional on bass and Marc Benaiges, drummer at Fundación Tony Manero. And we couldn't miss a horn section up to scratch composed by the trombonist Albert Costa (The Gramophone AII-Stars Big Band), Tenor sax's of Jordi Blanch (The Excitements) and Álvar Monfort (Guillem Alba & La Marabunta) on trumpet.
The goal is not anything else than to emulate the strenght and sould of the live performances from Otis, taking as a reference to build the show the unbelievable live record "Otis Redding In Person At The Whisky A Go Go". We're not in front of a tribute band, we're in front of a show made with respect, love and feeling. The Otis Redding Show is a 90 minutes of non-stop Soul sin set to raise the spirit and make you move your feet!
