Sigmar Matthiasson's sound is best described as a magnificent blend of hardcore groove and colorful melodies with influences ranging from Megadeth to Ray Brown.

Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, Sigmar started playing bass in his teens and was first introduced to jazz when studying at the F.I.H. School of Music where he graduated from in 2012. Later on Sigmar furthered his jazz studies at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he graduated from with honors in the spring of 2016.

Sigmar has been an active performer on the Icelandic music scene for several years, performing and recording with many of the most in-demand pop and jazz musicians in Iceland. In addition Matthiasson has performed at many international festivals.

Matthiasson's first solo album Áróra was released in 2018 and Meridian Metaphor is his second solo album which was released by Reykjavik Record Shop on June 4th 2021.

The music can be described as modern jazz mixing major influences from eastern world music. Therefore it's possible to hear influences both from East and West, across the Prime Meridian, where the composer makes up musical metaphors with various references to people, places and experiences which have shaped him over time.
