Pedro Borges

“Ninguem É Feliz Sozinho” - 2006

“Ninguem é Feliz Sozinho” is Pedro Borges’ second album, released by independent label Cambucá Music. The album was recorded in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Pedro Borges (acoustic guitar and vocals), Marcos China (percussion) and Pedro Lima (Guitar). The album is a tour of Brazilian music. From “Dá Licenca”, inspired by Jorge Ben’s grooves to the “Dar pra receber” pop ballad. From “Vai entender”and “Pela Estrada”, both samba tracks, to rock’n’roll song “Amor para o mundo”, the album is a melting pot of sounds and natural references for an artist who grew up and lives in Rio de Janeiro. The lyrics are about love, liberty and the search for new directions. The album is produced by Pedro Borges and Clower Curtis, and has special appearances by René Ferrer e Zé Nogueira,

Pedro Borges had everything to pursue a successful career in the stock market, which began when he was just sixteen years old. He soon discovered that what he really wanted to do was music. At 22 he abandoned his career. This breakaway and the changes he went through at the time had two practical results: Pedro went on to study music, singing, harmony and wrote his first songs – which appear on his debut album, “É Preciso Mudar”, produced in 2001 by Zé Nogueira; Pedro also began to work in recording studios, which brought him vast recording experience and the opportunity to work with great Brazilian musicians, especially during his time as head of Mega Studios, in Rio de Janeiro. This experience soon resulted in the creation of Cambucá Music, founded by Pedro in 2006, who’s first release was Rio de Janeiro based Cuban singer/songwriter René Ferrer’s acclaimed album.

Pedro has a wide musical background. During his teenage years, he was into the classics of rock’n’roll: Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Neil Young to name a few. When he began playing acoustic guitar, he fell in love with Brazilian popular music, also known as MPB, his favourites being Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Paulinho da Viola. He came in contact with samba in the most carioca fashion: at the great football matches in the city’s mythical stadium, the Maracana, where a packed stadium would hail their team with popular sambas. His enthusiasm for his team, Flamengo, soon began to have it’s own soundtrack. He dived head first in the samba milieu, where he discovered geniuses such as Noel Rosa, whon he considers as his main influence.
“Ninguem É Feliz Sozinho”is the result of all these influences and inspirations, and includes a wide repertoire of guitar solos, samba and pop music.
