The Canary Islands are the departure point for Caracoles’ musical fusion. Caracoles is a mestizo music group from Tenerife known, not only for their energising live show, mix of rumba, flamenco and latinoamerican styles, but also for their work in solidarity with refugees fleeing the international war zones. Formed in 2008 and with a very personal style, Caracoles has became a reference group in the Canary Islands bringing to its cultural and artistic panorama an open and joyful music. In 2015 the growing refugee crisis compelled them to do something and they create "Cumbia Mujiquera" (inspired by the personality of José Mújica, ex-president of Uruguay). They began using their upbeat mestizo sound to convey more serious messages.
In 2017 they ran a successful crowdfunding campaign to finance a journey to Greece alongside the organisation Pallasos en Rebeldía, where they performed in refugee camps in Athens.
2018 is the first decade of Caracoles and they celebrate these ten years with their new album realease, Flores (Flowers), which took them on tour through Spain earlier this year, raising money for Proactiva Open Arms, an NGO working to rescue refugees in the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea.
