Cuatro Pesos de Propina, formed in 2000 in Montevideo, Uruguay, has steadily grown as an independent band known for their eclectic mix of ska, reggae, cumbia, and rock, combined with influences from popular singer-songwriters. The band's journey began with their debut album, Se está complicando (2007), produced independently and co-produced by Chole Giannotti.

In 2010, they released their second album, Juan, also independently, with Fernando Goicoechea (known for his work with José Carbajal "El Sabalero"). By early 2013, they released their third studio album, Surcando, produced by Francisco Fattoruso, featuring notable musicians like Hugo Fattoruso, Andrea Echeverry, and Damny Baluteau (LA PHAZE).

In 2015, they issued their first DVD, Muerto pero Vivo, directed by Rodrigo Labella and produced by Francisco Fattoruso, documenting the band’s recent career. The band continued to release music, with singles such as "Hardcore el mambo" and "Sigo Creyendo" in 2017, followed by "La Llama," "La embestida," and "Yamanteri" in 2018. These tracks were part of their 2019 album LA LLAMA.

In 2021, Cuatro Pesos de Propina presented Del Camino, a documentary capturing the creation and recording process of LA LLAMA, as well as their tours across Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay. They also released their new album Respirar una vez más in 2021, continuing their tradition of blending diverse musical styles and engaging live performances.
