Aïta Nation
Feat Zaki Chaabi and Malha Bidawa
Aïta is described as the most tremendous dance music from North Africa.
When the Tarija and Bendir begin to play, the crowd gets into a trance clapping their hands and moving their feet like James Brown and swishing their hair like Kurt Cobain.
They lyrics depict the joy and pain of the people from the countryside of the plains of Morocco. Using very suggestive words and a traditionally harsh sounding violin electrifies, their songs.
Aïta means a Scream, and those popular anthems means nobody is quiet by the end of the show.
Zaki Chaabi and the women of Malha Bidawa follow the legacy and the style of Aïta Marsaouia. It was made famous by Bouchaib Bidawi, who dressed in drag to perform like the Cheikhas. A stand-in for the legendary violinist Marechal Quebbo is part of every show.
If you like making your grandmother dance all night long… Bring her to the party!
