Visitante & Vicente Garcia’s First Advance “Trending Tropics” Single Is Hailed By Rolling Stone As A ‘195 BPM
Battle With Technology Addiction... charging forward with the single-minded purpose of punk
“Hard Look at Technology’ And “Shifting Focus from the Singer to the Song, Creating Music Without a Face in the Age of the Selfie.”
Eduardo “VISITANTE” Cabra, the Latin music star, songwriter and groundbreaking producer who already holds a record setting 28 combined GRAMMY & LATIN GRAMMY awards, along with Best New Artist Latin Grammy winning collaborator Vicente Garcia have released the first single/video from the pair’s highly anticipated “Trending Tropics” project. An innovative multi-media, music fusion project marking Cabra’s first post-Calle 13 release as an artist. Introducing a theme of technology and introspection that runs throughout the album, Elintelné ft. Wiso G arrives with a Kacho Lopez directed video that questions if our dependence on connectivity may have become dangerously all consuming.
Set to arrive in October, “Trending Tropics” finds Visitante and Vicente Garcia creating music born from the traditions of Afro-Caribbean and Caribbean cultures and rhythms - intertwined with the sounds of boundary pushing contemporary/ experimental recording techniques and timely lyrical subject matter. Desiring to keep the focus directly on the creativity within the music itself instead of a singular persona, Trending Tropics will present the work of several gifted vocalists and instrumentalists through a project fronting multi-media display. Musicians already joining Visitante and Vicente for Trending Tropics include legendary David Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar, Ana Tijoux, Li Saumet, Ile, Riccie Oriach , Amayo (of Antibalas), Acentoh, Wiso G, Pucho y Guille (Members of Vetusta Morla) and more.
NEW YORK TIMES Fall Preview: “Visitante’s Trending Tropics Takes a Hard Look at Technology (and Makes a Robot Sing)… Visitante — Eduardo Cabra Martínez, the producer and musical director of the groundbreaking Puerto Rican group Calle 13 — has a terse mission statement for his new project ...Trending Tropics, he said, is ‘music without a face in the age of the selfie.’ The lyrics, in Spanish and occasionally English, playfully probe the ways that technology infuses 21st-century reality. The music traverses the Americas — and beyond, as it layers rootsy voices and live instruments atop gadget-generated beats...It shifts the focus from the singer to the song… The high-concept songs mingle the perils and pleasures of technology.”
ROLLING STONE: "Trending Tropics Battle Technology Addiction in ‘Elintelné’ Video... Trending Tropics, the duo made up of Calle 13 member Visitante and the Dominican singer Vicente Garcia, blitz through hard-headed merengue at around 195 beats per minute on their new single ‘Elintelné’ …a cautionary tale about human obsession with technology.... The amusing video brings this technological dependency to life. The clip follows a man who’s locked to his phone, ignoring his girlfriend and his colleagues at work. As the video progresses, his phone gradually gets bigger and bigger until he’s staring rapturously at a screen that’s taller than he is [until] the clip comes to a tragic end:....Despite the song’s serious topic, the music in ‘Elintelné’ is relentlessly upbeat, charging forward with the single-minded purpose of punk.
