The band ESTRAMBELHADOS represents and honors the rich musical tradition of the Brazilian city São Luiz do Paraitinga which models the popular feasts’ vivacity to the religious tradition of the catholic procession. The band had its first CD awarded by the public notice “Estímulo de Musica” of the Secretary of State for Culture of the State of São Paulo. Released in 2008 by the label Cooperativa, the album brings in its repertoire typical marches from the city’s feasts combined with Brazilian music styles such as “congadas”, “moçambique”, “folias dos reis e do divino” and with carnival themes that are typical of the Brazilian popular culture. The band has been gaining space in several segments and transforming carnival marches in a contemporary rhythm to be performed all year round.
