With the record Diplochromia, Crete University Press introduces a particularly interesting musical field, where western musical theory and practice meets the feeling, expression and techniques of our musical tradition and the tradition of Eastern music in general. Sfetsas’s two works (‘Diplochromia’ and ‘Lyrical suite’) belong to this atmosphere. They are essays on an muti-coded musical system, which fluently and masterfully combine the aesthetics of chamber music or an improvisation ensemble with the musical ethos of the East. Vassilis Soukas, a master in the art of the clarinet, provides the link betwen these elements. This edition is a tribute to his art and is accompanied by a booklet containing photographs, analysis and commentary.
