Introducing the group Deltas: Instrumental music made by fusion of sounds from the Mississippi delta to the Capibaribe delta. From the US to Brazil.
“This album brings together the Blues and Baião, and their derivatives. These rhythms were born from the same root but were separated into slave ships that have followed different paths - one for North America and one for South America, more specifically to northeastern Brazil. Now are together again, mixing the waters of the Mississippi and Capibaribe rivers.” – Dirceu Melo.
Dirceu Melo is a Brazilian musician and cultural producer. During the nineties, he was part of the Manguebeat movement, leading the band Jorge Cabeleira. This was followed by the band Eta Carinae, which fused traditional Brazilian music with modern and global references. The band toured festivals and clubs in Europe and USA during 2007-2012.
Now with Deltas, he is seeking a different sonority, searching deep into the roots of the Blues and Baião, performing on a wide range of instruments such as the Turkish Baglama, Melodica and guitars with open tuning. The intention is to be able to float between the border regions in common between these rhythms and other associated musical styles.
Arrastablues (Track 02) – This song is probably the most representative on the album, combining classical blues guitar riffs with regional instruments from the Brazilian northeast - the Rabeca (fiddle) and Zabumba - that give this song a strong and beautiful groove that changes the musical landscape several times.
Flor de Elis (Track 05) – Probably the most exotic song on the album. A Turkish Baglama intertwines with an open tuned slide guitar. Percussions, drums and acoustic bass mix with the Orient, jazz and blues, giving the song a sonority of exceptional originality.80
