BIM is a collective of six Beninese artists coming together to celebrate, and demonstrate to the world, the vital and enduring legacy of Beninese Vodou worship dances. It can be said that Vodou is present in the DNA of all major musical currents of the 20th century: jazz, rock, blues, gospel, Afrobeat and rap, and all these elements are part of the universal Vodou channelled through a BIM performance. Vodou rhythms and traditional songs, steamroller grooves, punk-hop riffs, with ceremonial singing invoking what is good and true; the mix is compellingly inspirational. Around the music, BIM, as an entity, has also developed an education and training project offering Beninese artists and cultural actors practical workshops on recording, computer-assisted music, video, photography and the media, with funding from Radio France, TV5 Monde, and other cultural institutions.
