Pioneers of Global Sound
Since 1981, the Berlin trio has explored sounds between Berlin and Tangier, Barcelona and Winnipeg, Altai and Bangalore, as one of the first groups ever to have opened West- ern pop culture to global influences.
Through decades of musical collaborations between Global Beat and Krautrock, new Classical and Trance, Metal and Electronics, the band has won a wonderfully eclectic audience on all continents. More than a thousand concerts and festival appearances have taken them around the entire planet. Selection of international festivals: See below
The Music Express ranked the Dissidenten album “Sahara Elektrik” among the 100 most important German records of all time. The album sold several million copies world wide. The title track “Fata Morgana” was a hit from Toronto to Cairo and Rio. “This album,” wrote the Spanish journalist Jose Miguel Lopez, “is the Bible and the Koran of world music and marked the birth of a genre.”

Other Dissidenten projects had a seminal in uence as well:
In Bollywood 1993, Dissidenten produced “The Jungle Book”, a trailblazing concept album which reflects their years of experience with South Indian music.
Remixes of their album “Instinctive Traveler” featuring DJs Sven Väth and Shantel were internationally acclaimed and inspired the live CD series “Dissidenten remix.ed”.
In cooperation with several European orchestras and choirs Dissidenten developed the documentary opera “The Memory of the Waters “which is being performed internationally since 2000.
Today, Dissidenten’s global pop sounds are particularly relevant. During the festival tour 20118/19, the group presented their latest album “We Don’t Shoot - Mohamed Mounir & Dissidenten” live before more than 350,000 listeners in Western Europe, Russia, Asia and Arabia. With biting sound and timely political commentary they show that even after three decades, they are still the pioneers of the genre. Together with groups like Kraftwerk or Einstürzende Neubauten, Dissidenten continue to spearhead the German avant-garde.
