“Casa de Fados em Concerto”
The template idea of this concert arises from Carlos Saura’s film “Fados”. What we are dealing with here is the Fado, but the traditional, classical and strict Fado.
We recreate here the intimate and sensual night atmosphere in a Fado Restaurant. There is a question you always want to ask: How and where, what was the origin of this music, whether sad, passionate or melancholic?
From this mixture of sounds confused and barbaric slowly emerged, little by little, a melody, a different sound, which reflects the Portuguese soul. Sound after sound, the Fado was born, poor not only poetically but also in its melodic form. The strict Fado designated as Corrido, Menor and Mouraria appears for the first time in the XIXC century. Its peculiarity lays in improvisation.
Through the times, Fado underwent many influences, since Provence troubadours, to Arabs, black people and above all by the seamen coming and going, carrying with them a whole range of tunes and beats from all over the world. It gradually evolved into a Fado with more refined and harmonious forms as we know it today.
“Casa de Fados em Concerto”, mingles various generations and styles of Fado singers and guitar players, with the sole purpose of depicting along the next few years, an "open window" revealing to the world the ultimate genuine work being done in Portugal on Fado.
This season “Casa de Fados” introduces different generations of Fado singers and guitar players “between 26 and 88 years of age”, with various styles, however with a point in common: their commitment to Traditional Fado.
