“Eljuri bounces confidently between reggae, fiery Santana-esque rock, Motown pop and vintage Cuban dance rhythms.” –THE VILLAGE VOICE

“Cecilia Villar Eljuri is a triple threat: She's an accomplished songwriter, a great vocalist and one hell of a guitar player.” – NPR MUSIC, Alt.Latino
Touted as one of the top Latina electric guitar players in the world, Eljuri navigates through the musical landscapes of her Ecuadorian, Spanish and Lebanese heritage all presented with an elegant and socially conscious voice.
As a musical activist for Immigrant and Women’s Rights, Eljuri has her guitar strings and voice on the pulse of some of the most timely issues that echo across our globe. Audiences engage with her memorable bilingual message of protest and universal truths expressed in her award-winning songs and videos.
Eljuri’s musical vernacular draws from the tangos and pasillos that her mother composed, the cha-cha-cha she danced to with her father, the records she borrowed from her older siblings, and to NYC’s Lower East Side clubs like CBGBs where she played with her first bands.
“‘Resiste: la Colección Reggae de Eljuri’ is one of the year’s best albums in any language.” –VENTS MAGAZINE
