Cantodiscanto plays - in the day dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of Coronavirus - the songs of the cd Pandemusica (Visage Music editions), conceived in the period of the pandemic, and which draws inspiration from it, both in terms of lyrics and working methods.
The group collaborated with many old and new fellow travelers, who gave their contribution also recording at distance, when it was impossible to meet together.
The music is a kind of ethnic-acustic style, recalling the portuguese fado, Brasil and Early and Folk Southern Italy and Mediterranean music. Compositions are by Guido Sodo, Ivan Valentini, Paolo Caruso, Frida Forlani and Faisal Taher.
As far as the lyrics, the group goes on with its multi-cultural style: there are some lyrics in Portuguese, due to collaboration with the Italian writer and journalist resident in Lisbon Marcello Sacco who freely drew inspiration from Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet, an arab song by Faisal Taher and some stuff from Naples and Campania Folk Repertoire.
There is the usual use of Neapolitan, the mother tongue of Guido Sodo, who wrote the rest of the lyrics, but this time he used Italian in several passages, even in the invented archaic form of the song that gives its name to the CD.
Cantodiscanto:
Guido Sodo: guitars, oud, voice
Frida Forlani: voice, chitarra battente, citara
Mirco Mungari: darbouka, cajon, frame drums, berimbao, guitars
Ivan Valentini: sax soprano, sax alto
Giovanni Calcaterra: doublebass

We explore how AI can help safeguard music’s rich musical heritage while propelling the music industry into an innovative, human-centred future. We discuss how AI can be a potent tool for cultural preservation and archival work. Through optical music recognition, thousands of forgotten musical works can be brought to light. AI can automate the creation of variant trees, allowing musicologists to focus on their interpretation. AI can empower musicians through sound processing tools, allowing instrument separation for score study or on-demand “minus-one” recordings for at-home practice. AI will enable fully immersive symphonic concert experiences and cost-effective tools that democratize surround recording. Orchestras will have a global outreach, and venues will offer themselves as acoustic holograms: metaverse-ready 360° fully navigatable audio-visual virtual halls. Lastly, the importance of training AI on our heritage, evolving it to align with our shared cultural values to ensure a harmonious future, will be discussed.Piranha Arts2024-02-14//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: Berlin360 degrees: Creating new concert formats

Chaired by Hanni Liang (Germany), Pianist and concert creator
with Sergio Roberto Gratteri (Artistic Director, DAS HAUS), Hans Georg Hofmann (Artistic Director, Basel Sinfonietta)
How can we create new concert experiences? How can we open up the form to foster enhancement and exchanges? And how can a concert address artistic topics of the now and create more connection to and with music, the institutions and the artists? Looking at the triangle of a concert: The artist, the audience and the work itself, this session is talking about the new roles of musicians, listeners and concert promoters. Come into the open kitchen and enjoy a three-course menu:
Appetiser: Hear new ways of performing by pianist and concert designer Hanni Liang, get to know the rethinking of programming by Sergio Roberto Gratteri in his concert series at DAS HAUS Brussels and discover audience involvement with the outreach projects of the Sinfonieorchester Basel presented by their artistic director Hans-Georg Hofmann.
Main course: Now it‘s your turn - create your own concert idea in a small design sprint!
Dessert: Voice up! Share your best idea.Piranha Arts2024-02-14//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: BerlinTransformation Unleashed:

Get ready for an engaging, interactive journey as we navigate the key factors that drive social change and provocatively ask, ""Is music TRULY creating social change?”
In the wake of a booming wave of educational and community programs in orchestras, concert halls and in cultural institutions, we invite you to be part of this engaging session where we blend theory and practice, taking a dynamic approach to the role of music for social action programs in societal transformation.
Rooted in the principles of social science, we'll harness the power of collective thinking to dissect the complexities of music's impact on social change. Through interactive discussions, live polls, and breakout moments, we'll challenge conventional wisdom and explore the potential strenghts and limitations of music-based initiatives. This session is designed to ignite your critical thinking and innovation, encouraging you to become an active participant in shaping the conversation. Together, we'll delve into the heart of the matter, examining whether music truly stands as a potent catalyst for social change or if innovative approaches and new perspectives are needed to address today's pressing societal challenges.Piranha Arts2024-02-07//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: BerlinThe Future of Music Education

As we stand at the crossroads of a rapidly evolving global landscape, the future relevance of music conservatories in the coming decades is a question that demands our attention. Drawing from diverse leadership roles in Europe, Latin America, and the US – spanning social development initiatives to leading higher education institutions – this session raises queries about the value of current music training paradigms. Beyond performance mastery, are young musicians being equipped with the versatile skills needed in an interconnected world? Does the approach foster critical thinking and incorporate a liberal arts dimension?
This session, enriched by a philosophical framework, real-world case studies, and industry expertise, delves into these vital issues shaping the industry's trajectory. Join in this concise exploration of music education's transformative potential for the 21st century.Piranha Arts2024-02-07//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: BerlinThe Complete Audience Toolbox

Chaired by Cecilie Szkotak Nielsen (Denmark), Senor Consultant, RasmussenNordic
with Søren Mikael Rasmussen (CEO of RasmussenNordic)
Getting more audiences into the concert can feel like an uphill battle, so in 2023 the Danish orchestras and RasmussenNordic developed a set of 26 tools and 6 inspiration lists addressing all the known barriers and needs of new classical music audiences. Anyone can use the tools and make audience-friendly changes without major strategy work.
The lead developer, Cecilie Nielsen, and CEO, Søren M. Rasmussen, host this session about using tools to create change.
Expect:
- An introduction to several new useful tools for brand, programming, concert concepts, data, hosting, storytelling & digital marketing.
- Learn the needs and barriers of first-time audiences.
- Learn which tools can counter which audience barriers.
- Hear about the changes in Denmark after orchestras and ensembles began using the tools.
- Discuss which tools you need in your organization.
The tools are based on research into first-time audiences: Young urbans (age 20-30), families (age 30-45) and empty nesters (age 45-65).
The English version of the tools will be published spring 2024.Piranha Arts2024-02-07//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: BerlinPower Sharing and Empowerment

Chaired by Dorothee Kalbhenn (Germany), Program Director, Konzerthaus Berlin
with Kian Jazdi
The increasing imperative to foster progress and empowerment fuels the critical need for collaborations of a wide range of players: large artistic institutions - concert halls, opera houses, orchestras - and associations, schools, or refugee centers. The latter are able to present their projects in prominent contexts on large stages, who in return can profit from authentic participation thanks to independent partners with years of efforts in diverse communities. While such conceptual collaborations can open access to life-changing music experiences for otherwise absent parts of society, they also rise challenges for the organizational partners involved. Our unique perspective, stemming from our dual experience in both institutional and non-profit realms, allows us to engage in a self-reflective dialogue that uncovers the nuances of this approach. Chaired by Beat Fehlmann (Switzerland), artistic director, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz
with Lea Brückner (Violinist and Climate Ambassador) and Asbjørn Keiding (director of Danske Ensembler, Orkestre og Operainstitutioner (DEOO)
The most important driver of emissions in the concert business is not the travel of the artists, but the audience. However, no concerts cannot be the solution!
The goal must therefore be to achieve a negative footprint and a positive handprint. The positive impact and future-oriented outcomes are currently not measured and are not mentioned in climate reports. Lea Brueckner, Asbjørn Keiding and Beat Fehlmann will lead this session and quide a workshop format with the aim of finding together programmatic solutions by using the Ludwigshafen impact model to make these ambitions visible and measurable. In this way, we as an industry become part of the solution and offer a great opportunity for the environment, society and the economy.
Let's go creative together for sustainable concerts with a positive impact on nature, society, economy and each concertgoer!

Chaired by Daniel Lewis (UK), Relationship Manager - Classical, PRS for Music
with Jacob Wiltshire (Pusher) and Jobina Tinnemans (Composer)
It is obvious from the history of film and TV that composers from the classical era have a lot to offer in soundtracks. This seems even truer today, as some of the most timbrally exciting and exploratory music is being made by composers in the contemporary classical world. In 2023, PRS for Music led a groundbreaking initiative – New Streams – in partnership with Riot Ensemble and the synchronisation agency PUSHER. This project saw concert works repurposed for film trailers, breathing new life into works awaiting repeat performances, and opening new revenue streams for concert composers. Daniel Lewis (PRS for Music) will be joined by Jacob Wiltshire (PUSHER) and Jobina Tinnemans (Composer) to explore some of the unique examples of contemporary music in film, and how this model can open up audiences to the power of this exceptional music.Piranha Arts2024-02-07//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: Berlin(New) Audience Engagement: Digital Trends and Strategies

Chaired by Judd Greenstein (USA), Director, New Amsterdam Records
with Sophia Jani (composer); Gabriel Prokofiev (founder, nonclassical)
The concept of "genre-fluidity" is as old as genre itself, but the concept has taken on a new meaning in the 21st century, as old boundaries between well-established fields of music have dissolved and artists have utilized new platforms to build their identities without regard to genre distinctions. While this is a healthy development for artists themselves, it is less clear how the stakeholders in established genre-centric fields such as Classical Music can both support and benefit from this change. How can established institutions adapt to authentically embrace these changes while upholding legacy expectations and preserving trust with audiences? This session will be a lively discussion led by composer Judd Greenstein, who has been on the front lines of genre-fluid music in New York since the early 2000s, through his role both as an artist and as co-founder of New Amsterdam Records.Piranha Arts2024-02-07//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 13 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
type: Conference
country: Germany
city: BerlinAI: Mind that Intelligent Child

It was a chance cinema visit that set Slovenian guitar ace Teo Collori on his current musical path. Already busy as an all-style session player and known performer on the contemporary jazz scene, he discovered a particular passion for the Gypsy Swing jazz of Django Reinhardt while watching Woody Allen's film, Midnight in Paris. Immersing himself in the grand master's repertoire, he gathered around him some like-minded, talented musicians and formed his own Hot Club style band. But this was not to be a tribute band performing covers and emulating the style. Teo Collori and Momento Cigano invoke the spirit of Django through Teo's original compositions, creating a fresh and revivifying take on the master's legacy, exemplified on the acclaimed 2015 debut album Hot Club Piran, and explored and enhanced on four more releases to date.Druga Godba2023-10-24//www.womex.com/virtualEventsdate: 27 Oct 2023 - 27 Oct 2023
type: Concert
country: Spain
city: A CoruñaSounds from Spain Reception
