María Esteban is a Spanish vocalist and composer breathing new life into the golden era of mid-century jazz. Born in Málaga and based in Barcelona, she draws inspiration from the elegance of 1950s and 60s vocal jazz, channeling its warmth, swing, and cinematic atmosphere through a distinctly contemporary and feminine perspective. Her voice—intimate, nuanced, and emotionally direct—moves effortlessly between classic repertoire and original compositions, creating performances that feel timeless yet vibrantly present.
A recipient of the prestigious AIE Scholarship, Esteban has steadily built her reputation across Spain’s jazz circuit, performing at leading festivals and cultural venues while gaining national media attention, including appearances on RNE. Her releases, including Voces Veladas and her debut album It’s Me! (2024), reveal an artist deeply committed to storytelling and to reclaiming overlooked narratives, particularly those of women in jazz history.
Collaboration lies at the heart of her practice. Through international residencies and cross-cultural projects, she develops new repertoire with musicians from diverse traditions, weaving Mediterranean lyricism and subtle Latin influences into the language of classic swing. Beyond the stage, she is active in education and community engagement, leading workshops that connect young audiences with the roots and relevance of jazz.
María Esteban stands at the intersection of heritage and renewal, honoring tradition while shaping a refined, globally resonant voice of her own.
