Festival Raiz is an annual event whose first edition took place in 2016, dedicated to traditional Mozambican root music, with a view to rescuing, preserving, valuing and disseminating the cultural diversity rooted in Mozambique.
Our mission is to encourage reflection on the role of the arts in terms of preservation, local tradition and Mozambican intangible heritage, given its transformations. Additionally, we aim to facilitate exchanges between national and international traditional music artists, as well as promote local talent in order to stimulate the development of national cultural and creative industries.
The Raiz Festival takes place in the form of several multifaceted activities, which include ethnic and traditional music concerts, lectures and debates, exhibition of ethnographic films, artistic residencies of musical creation and composition, through the fusion of traditional, modern or electronic instruments, bringing together artists from the region and the world.
The 6th edition of the Festival RAIZ will take place from June 19 to 30, 2023, under the motto, “Preserving and Disseminating Traditional Music”, in various cultural spaces in the city of Maputo.
