The world's first and greatest bluegrass hip-hop band. Some say Gangstagrass created its own new genre of music, but in fact it's a homecoming and family reunion of styles of music that were artificially separated during America's shameful era of Jim Crow segregation by record companies creating markets, inventing categories like "hillbilly music" and "race music". Formed in 2006, growing out of an experimental idea of Brooklyn-based musician and producer Rench, Gangstagrass is the only band ever to bring real hip-hop MCs to #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart and the only band to have a #1 bluegrass album put up for Grammy consideration for best Rap album. They're also recipients of a UNESCO international innovators award, and The New York Times called Gangstagrass "the music America needs". Really, it's the music the world needs.
