Demiran &262;erimovi&263; and his brass orchestra "Vranjski Biseri" ("Pearls of Vranje") are Roma living in the small town of Vranje in southern Serbia. They've played traditional Serbian Roma brass music at many Roma and world music festivals in Serbia and beyond since 1997. Seven times they have won the Best Brass Band prize at the Vlasinsko Leto summer festival in Surdulica, south Serbia, and twice (in 2002 and 2006) at the Sabor Truba&269;a Gu&269;a brass band festival in Gu&269;a, Serbia. In 2005 they collaborated with Lebanese singer Tonny Hanna for their first album. In 2006, they recorded their second album, Pearls of Vranje. In Gu&269;a they met the famous Serbian Roma dancer and singer, Simona Jovi&263;, who has worked for years for the recognition and the maintenance of authentic Roma culture. Simona Jovi&263; felt in love with the music of Vranjski Biseri, and she has taken them on her European Romani tour.
