With a voice to unlock the soul, Eugenia Georgieva is a singer of a deep, abounding grace. With a love of music past and present, she’s woven a vocal tapestry through folk music all the way to rock and electronica. Born in Bulgaria and now living in London, her talent has brought rapturous comments (“exquisite” – San Diego Union-Tribune) for the purity and range of her music.
She is best known for her work with the lauded Perunika Trio, specializing in Bulgarian a cappella, and YANTRA, a groundbreaking vocal ensemble mixing Bulgarian, Indian and English Renaissance vocal music. Her voice can be heard on numerous soundtracks and lately she has been appearing in high-profile theatre and contemporary opera productions.
For her eagerly awaited debut solo album Eugenia has joined forces with some of the leading contemporary Bulgarian musicians: Magdalena Stoyanova (double bass), Gancho Gavazov (gadulka), Stoimen Dobrev (kaval) and Velizar Mandzhovski (tamboura, guitar). Together they have recorded an exquisite selection of Bulgarian folk gems both famous and unknown, passed down the generations, in new original arrangement.
