Rebetiko Trio – Skoutas • Mitarakis • Zarias brings together Vassilis Skoutas (bouzouki, vocals), Dimitris Mitarakis (guitar, vocals) and Giannis Zarias (violin, baglama). Skoutas and Mitarakis have been musical partners since 2000, with Zarias joining them to form the trio in 2013.
Rooted in rebetiko and Greek urban folk music, the trio places particular emphasis on the natural acoustic sound of its instruments, drawing inspiration from early gramophone recordings, the Smyrna musical tradition and the sound world of the interwar period. Their performances combine this heritage with a contemporary approach to arrangement and improvisation, moving naturally from intimate and nostalgic to energetic and celebratory.
The trio has performed at venues and festivals in Greece and abroad and has collaborated with numerous musicians of the genre.
