VAITEANI is the hybrid hymen of Tahiti and Alsace, a duo composed of Vaiteani Teaniniuraitemoana and Luc Totterwitz, who wears the name of its singer. The duo plays Polynesian Folk music, an original genre defined by songs sung both in Tahitian and English and by a mix of pop, folk, world and soul music. Born in 2011 for the famous French Festival ‘Les Francofolies de La Rochelle’, they get acclaimed by renowned French singer Laurent Voulzy who encourages them to pursue their musical goals. They mature their compositions till they get signed in 2015 on independent French music label Un Plan Simple, published by Sony Music. They quit their jobs as teachers in Tahiti to take the big plunge into the music industry.
Two years later in October 2017, they release their debut album in France. Entitled ‘Vaiteani’, the album displays 13 mesmerizing songs that deal with love, betrayal, judgement, perseverance, contemplation and death. Two songs revolve around Gauguin, ambiguous character of the colonial decorum. Only one song in French, a cover, revisited of course and, as all the other songs, Polynesian Folk designed.
