Although Sondorgo have been lurking under the radar for a while now, their latest releases have certainly caused a stir. They present their core repertoire of Southern Slav melodies and circle dances in a traditional tambura band formation, supplemented with accordion and flute. But a blast of brass and percussion quickly transports us from the banks of the Danube and the Drava to the mountains of the Balkans. It's difficult to believe that this youthful band from near Budapest have already celebrated 15 years together, yet their virtuosity and verve leave no doubt that they are worthy collaborators for stars such as Boban Markovic and Ferus Mustafov. Mixing material gathered by Bartok and Vujicsics with their own research and family traditions, Soendoergoe; create a sparkling atmosphere at dances, concerts and festivals, and in charismatic Katya Tompos they now have a potent vocal foil to help fuel their ascent.
