Acclaimed for their distinctive sound and interpretation of early Swedish traditions, Hedin & Meidell craft rich soundscapes with their blend of nyckelharpa and baroque violin. Ida’s expertise in diverse fiddle styles and baroque music, combined with Johan’s innovative mastery of the nyckelharpa, shapes their intricate and heartfelt revival of old tunes for new ears.

Hedin & Meidell have established themselves as leading figures in the Swedish and Nordic folk music scenes, as well as in early music. Johan Hedin and Ida Meidell first met in 2015 while performing in an EBU live broadcast organized by the Stockholm Early Music Festival for the European Day of Early Music. Since their debut at the 2019 Korrö Festival, they have toured extensively throughout Sweden and beyond. In 2023, they released their critically acclaimed debut album Klockarens musikaliska värld on Gammalthea, followed by the September 2024 release of Prowinciale through Smålands Musikarkiv. Their music, rooted in the rich traditions of the 18th century, seamlessly evolves into contemporary expressions. Hedin & Meidell fully embrace the duo format, crafting intricate arrangements that breathe new life into traditional tunes and create a distinctive sound that bridges the past and present.
