"Chansons pour les oiseaux qui ne savent pas voler" - Wouter Vandenabeele

Wouter Vandenabeele

Songs without words, dreamy compositions by Wouter Vandenabeele (violin), Tom Theuns (guitar) and Bao Sissoko (kora) mixed with mazurkas, Breton gavottes, African reels, Balkan grooves, evocations on Etna with exuberant improvisations . Wouter’s violin playing is extremely alive. He lets the strings sing, sprinkles from time to time with dissonances and he interprets melancholy like no other.
This trio balances between innovation and tradition, strength and refinement, between dream and reality.
The saudade to a place in the subconscious is reinforced by the feeling of being “locked up or locked while seated as during the covid lockdown”; much as if birds were not allowed to fly to distant lands and were only dreaming and “singing” about it.
