House of Waters is the confluence of multiple musical streams. Hammered dulcimer virtuoso Max ZT and six-string bassist Moto Fukushima have been guiding the band's fluid course since 2008, embarking on uplifting expeditions across musical borders to create what can't help but be a unique sound. With roots in Irish folk music, Max has studied in Senegal, where he trained with the Cissoko Griot family, and India, where he studied under the santoor master Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Moto Fukushima's background in jazz improvisation, Western classical music and the African-inspired musics of South America, shapes his singular approach, full of finesse, subtlety, and power. House of Waters 2023 Grammy-nominated album, On Becoming, features long-time accompanist, drummer Antonio Sanchez (Pat Metheny, Chick Corea et al), plus guest appearances by guitarist Mike Stern and vocalist Priya Darshini.
