Ilka Schlockermann is a London-based freelance PR promoting music from all over the world - aka World Music - with a special interest in contemporary African and Caribbean music.
Ilka has been working in the music industry for over 15 years. She has worked at labels (including Cooking Vinyl), in management (with various Nigerian artists such as JJC & 419 Squad, African China, Vocal Slender and D'banj), as a researcher for radio programmes (Afropop/BBC World Service and African Vibes/BBC Radio 1Xtra) and as a writer/editor for a website (BBC Africa On Your Street).
Ilka has been working as a freelance PR since 2006, covering UK national and regional media (print, online, radio, TV). Her clients have included UK-based and international record labels such as Real World Records, Analog Africa, Out Here Records, Glitterbeat/ Glitterhouse Records, Knitting Factory Records, Six Degrees Records, Piranha Musik, Movimientos, Cumbancha, harmonia mundi, Nascente, Brownswood Recordings, World Connection and Because Music, as well as event companies such as Como No, Refugee Week and Serious.
UK media campaigns have included Bassekou Kouyate, Fela Kuti (2013 reissue series + 'Red Hot + Fela' compilation), Vieux Farka Touré, Tamikrest, Boban & Marko Marković Orchestra, Jupiter & Okwess International, The Bombay Royale, Samba Touré, Lobi Traoré, Wara, Los Chinches, Roberto Fonseca, Aurelio, Dub Colossus, Owiny Sigoma Band, The Creole Choir of Cuba, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo, Anibal Velasquez, Dirtmusic, Ben Zabo, JuJu, Watcha Clan and Syriana, as well as the BBC Radio 3 compilation 'World Routes: on the road', the La Linea 13 London Latin Music Festival, Celebrating Sanctuary London and UK tours by Céu and Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares.
