The woodcarved doors of the 16th century churches of Olinda, Pernambuco - one of the most important colonial sites of Brazil - will once again be opened for music. Baroque altars will stage over 30 concerts and shows. From classical repertoire to world music, from folk to naïve, from jazz to frevo and other Brazilian rythms, a selected list of performers will bring delight to music lovers.

In addition to Olinda, two other important capital cities of NE Brazil, Recife and João Pessoa, will also offer concerts, widening the reach of the Olinda International Music Festival (MIMO) to a broader audience in its 7th edition.

MIMO guest artists include US guitarist Mike Stern, the Hugo Wolff String Quartet from Vienna, French gyspy guitar ensemble Selmer #607 and pianist Mario Canongé from Martinique. Brazilian names with international careers such as tenor Fernando Portari, soprano Rosana Lamosa, sax player Leo Gandelman and conductor Isaac Karabtchevsky will also perform. An interesting roster of many other names complete the programmes. The free admittance concerts, shows and recitals are completed by a film festival focusing on new titles on music and musicians. A thourough educational programme offers free master classes, conducting classes, workshops, resident orchestra and other teaching actions for all kinds of music students and young music professionals, both Brazilian and foreign.
