The Finnish indie/roots band Jake and Rambling Blade released their debut album on Friday, October 25, 2024. "True Love" tells the story of a personal journey of growth and how the love for music was rediscovered. The album also reflects the band's formation.
The album, featuring strong bluegrass, country, and Americana influences, includes several guest musicians in addition to JRB's three core members. The most prominent of these are the award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Nicky Mehta (The Wailin’ Jennys), whose 30-year career has made her one of the most respected musicians in the roots genre. On JRB’s album, Mehta features on a total of three tracks.
The other equally prominent featuring artist on the album is bluegrass veteran Michael Daves (guitar and backing vocals).
“Michael has been mentoring me and without his teaching and unequaled dedication to Bluegrass music, I would certainly not be where I am right now. And this is regarding both my vocals and my guitar playing. So getting to sing and play together with him on the album is something I value more than I have words to express,” says Jake.
Other musicians on the album are Jonathan Hull (assistant producer, studio musician, and backing vocals hailing from Chicago but residing in Kontiolahti, Finland), professional violinist Laraine Kaizer-Viazovtsev, who moved from the U.S. to Finland, and Pauli Halme (mandolin) from Erin's band, one of Finland's leading fingerstyle guitarists. Additionally, the renowned pedal steel guitarist Miikka Paatelainen (pedal steel on "Rain On The Window" and dobro on "More Than Meets The Eye") and banjo virtuoso Janne Viksten perform on the track "Frozen River."
The album’s producer is Jussi Jaakonaho, a producer, mixer, guitarist, and composer who has worked on acclaimed albums.
