Lapua-Uusi-Guinea's debut album Virittää is akin to its cover art: it mixes old and new, truth and tale. The vocal-instrumental sextet, founded in 2018, grabs the Finnish and Scandinavian folk music tradition and gives it a modern twist via jazz and pop influences, but nevertheless keeping at core the folkdance rhythms as well as the feelings of tender beauty, melancholical longing, and hearty, wild, ecstatic joy.
The album peaked at #14 in Roots Music Reports' chart, sold out its first print, and its tracks received international radio airplay around Europe and the US.
