Kasia Kadłubowska & ROOTS Ensemble
'ROOTS' is a journey into the spiritual landscape of ancestors of Eastern Europe.
ROOTS Ensemble is the latest project by polish percussionist and composer Kasia Kadłubowska. Reimagining traditional songs from Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus, the album opens up a striking new sonic space far beyond the sound of a conventional folk ensemble.
Built around marimba, vibraphone, synthesizers, drums, and voice, the music unfolds as a hypnotic, layered landscape. At times raw and powerful, at others fragile and intimate, the arrangements reveal the emotional depth and timeless resonance of these old songs.
Kadłubowska’s compositions are rooted in the rich heritage of Eastern European folk music, while also drawing on influences from experimental and popular music. Space for improvisation remains an essential part of the project’s artistic language.
The album features Krystyna Gedzik (vocals), Dominik Bukowski (vibraphone), Dominik Fürstberger (drums, synthesizer, production), and, as a guest, the traditional Polish vocal group Źdźbło from Gdańsk.
Together with producer Dominik Fürstberger, Kadłubowska has shaped a coherent and immersive sound world: pulsating, atmospheric, and deeply expressive — offering a fresh perspective on folk music for contemporary audiences.

About ROOTS Ensemble
ROOTS Ensemble is an international collective devoted to researching and reinterpreting vocal folk traditions from Central and Eastern Europe. Their work bridges free improvisation and composition, combining traditional singing techniques with contemporary sound design, electronics, marimba, and vibraphone.
The ensemble explores how music can preserve cultural memory while also creating new spaces for community, dialogue, and artistic exchange. On the album, she presents new interpretations of traditional songs from Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus—compositions whose sound worlds differ markedly from that of a typical village band.
