Born Tawanda Chari, WaCharie is an Afro-Fusion and Afro Jazz Traditional artist, singer, songwriter, music producer and performer based in Mutare, Zimbabwe. His music talks about social issues, love, life and everything in between, which is influenced by his passion for people, traditions and everyday experiences. He performs with his band Shamwari DzeRwendo.
WaCharie started his professional music career in 2013 and has released 3 studio albums - Bumharutsva (2018), Tangerima (2019) and Chidzorogodo (2024). In 2020, he also released a 4-track EP titled Dzeupenyu: Life Stories.
Inspiration:
WaCharie draws inspiration from his profound love for music, believing it to be the cure to all ailments in life. He admires giants in the music industry, both locally and internationally, such as the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi and the Congolese artist Lokua Kanza, who serve as humble pace-setters in the industry.
Collaborations:
Over the years, WaCharie has collaborated with several artists, including Forward Mazuruse, Audinence Kuimba, South African-based Maxie Set Apart, Kim Afro Poetic Mind, and hip hop artist Will B. He has also shared the stage with established musicians like Louis Mhlanga, Edith Weutonga, Clive 'Mono' Mukundu and Mokoomba.
