Like the Harmattan, Foofango, blows a torrid wind from Sahel. It takes shape in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso. There, it gets ready to travel all around the world. The name of the group means “breath of life” in the fulfulde tongue of the Fulani people. It makes reference to the spirit which flows in music and makes it alive.

The musicians of FOOFANGO are coming from different countries : Cameroon, Togo, Belgium and Burkina Faso. They met in OUAGADOUGOU in 1995 where they mixed their influences and backgrounds to create this joyful blend. The originality in FOOFANGO’s music lies in the fusion of african rythms, chants and percussions with the colourful improvisations of the five musicians. Their pleasure in playing is highly communicative and has proved its efficiency all along the more than sixty concerts they have already given in Europe and Africa since 1999.

Zoumana DEMBELE (Burkina Faso) is a griot, he plays percussions and is a master djembe player. He plays also the Dosso N'goni (the hunter’s small kora). Désiré SOME (Burkina Faso) is one of the most gifted guitar players of his generation on the new African scene. Alain NYAME (Cameroon) is a wonderful bass player, and along with Boris TCHANGO (Togo) forms one of the grooviest rythm sections of Africa. Pierre VAIANA (Belgium) has already a long career behind him with several records on his name. He has lived four years in Burkina Faso and travels frequently to Africa (Benin, Congo). He has received the award of the SPES FOUDATION for his projects with African musicians.
Everyday when FOOFANGO plays, the essence of their music expresses the joy of meeting, communication and sharing. The breath of life will never stop blowing.
