Maria de Medeiros is actress (Quentin Tarantino Pulp Fiction) and singer. Her last release "
Peninsulas and Continents" is a musical voyage between the peninsulas of southern Europe Iberia and Italy and the American and African continents.

Over the last few centuries, music has journeyed along on the great voyages of discovery and been a vital part of cultural exchanges and alliances, including film. The Latin countries of Europe have sent off poetry, melodies, feelings and talented artists, and from the great continents of Africa and North and South America have come rhythms, energy, sentiments and a wide-range of influences.

Peninsulas and Continents explores these mutual echoes.

And so the poem of a medieval troubadour written in the Valencian dialect becomes a response to an Angolan song of lament in Kimbundo, which, in turn, finds commonalities in a ballad by the Portuguese composer Jose Afonso, who, for his part, seems to be exchanging ideas with the Chilean poet Victor Jara. Classics by Italian composer Nino Rota - written for both American films and international masterpieces are also visited along this journey. Songs of resistance cross with African fados* and Brazilian and Spanish rock, as well as with compositions by Brazilian singer-songwriter Lenine and the Spanish musical group El Ultimo de la Fila.

Beyond the music, melodic nuances are created by the languages themselves: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Catalan, English... Languages from peninsulas and continents. In this way, whispers, shouts, messages and laughter come together to form a tapestry of feelings and emotions that reflect a truly intercontinental vision.
