Contreo is a project by Ollivier Leroy (Olli), founder of Olli & the Bollywood Orchestra.
In the past he delivered his very personal interpretation of popular indian music. He gave tribute to Bollywood and visited hindi rock. Now, Olli comes back to his western roots and dives into the world of head voices.
Although it could seem very far off his previous projects, Olli sees Contreo in very logical lining with his work.
All the tracks are sung in English. The music is a mix of pop and baroque music, with a dash of electronic sounds. Klaus Nomi will obviously come to mind, as well as his “Cold Song” adapted off Henry Purcell's “King Arthur”, or eunuch voices brought to popular knowledge by Farinelli, also composers such as Wim Mertens.
However, Olli will take you to a somewhat different place. His encounter with composer and arranger Jean-Philippe Goude will prove to be decisive for the rest of the adventure. Very excited by the project, Jean-Philippe Goude offers to write all the arrangements and to perform on stage with his Orchestra alongside Olli. Jean-Philippe Goude was first noticed for the arrangements he made for various popular artists (Dick Annegarn, Odeurs, Renaud who owes him his “Mistral Gagnant's” theme). He wrote the theme songs for several French TV shows (Caractères, Un siècle d’écrivains), films soundtracks (Nos enfants chéris – “To our beloved children”). He also composed the music for the Barcelone Olympic Games, as well as many advertising campaigns' theme songs.
