"Batuques e Calangos" presents the result of many years of studies and collection of pieces which composes the "popular culture" universe of Brazil's south-center, and from the experience of Volmi Batista as an interpreter and composer.
Putting together songs from composers who presents in their artistic work the same attention to the value of the oral and traditional rhythms from "sertão" - the interior portion of Brazi -, as Juraildes da Cruz, Rubinho do Vale e Téo Azevedo, as well as songs from traditional masters, as Dona Gercina, Edmilson and Rosemiro, completed with authorial songs, the album "Batuques e Calangos" presents a beautiful diversity of rhythms, as "congada", "calango", "folia de reis" and 'pagodes de viola", through which the habits, stories and tales from the traditional inhabitants of “sertão” are told – people who sings, dances and prays in harmony with the nature and its elements.
