This is an All Star live ensemble featuring some of the most important names in the Cape Town ethno jazz scene. They perform a particular musical style unique to the Cape area of South Africa. The music is a combination of jazz and folk music. It is known locally as Cape Jazz.
The band perform works by the greats in the genre, Dollar Brand, Basil Coetzee, Robbie Jansen as well as their own compositions. The new album associated with this project is The Cape Jazz Band - Musical Democracy - will be released in 2013.
The group is lead by drummer Jack Momple, one of the most famous names in the genre.
