Zac & Lina is the result of a musical journey that began in Bamako in March 2007 when Oumar Kouyate (Ngoni Ba) and Lina Langendorf played together for the first time. The journey continued from there to Stockholm and a jamsession during a short visit by Oumar where the musicians Alou Coulibaly (Ngoni Ba, Ali Farka Toure, Rokia Traore m fl) and Putte Johander (Lekverk, Fattigfolket) joined in. Finally in December 2008 Zacharia Diatta and Lina met in Ziguinchor in Senegal and Zac & Lina was born.
It would take almost two years until the five musicians would meet together to realise the project. On the island of Koster in the western part of Sweden they gathered for a week at Putte's home to explore and expand the music.

Together the five musicians create a unique sound all beyond borders where live energy and the joy of playing together are the driving forces. Traditional West African instruments blends together with a double bass and the saxophone.
On their first tour in Sweden they recieved standing ovations from the audience and very positive reviews from the press.

The music is composed by Zacharia Diatta with arrangements by the group.
It contains influenses from around the world and the lyrics, sung in more than five different West African languages, deals with important subjects in West Africa today such as the emigration and female circomstition. It is music that strives to encourage change and give hope to the world
