Sarah Maeda was born to a family of music lovers. Her father is a pastor of a Protestant church, and with six brothers and a mother that loved music, she has always been surrounded by music. She began playing the drums in the fourth grade at her father’s church. As a junior high school student, she fell in love with the saxophone and began playing it at church on Sundays. After junior high school, Maeda focused her effort on helping her family and working part time jobs, all while concentrating on the saxophone, playing both in church and on the street with her family.

From 17 years old, Maeda actively participated in music sessions at live houses throughout Tokyo, where she met other musicians. At 19, she formed her own band and started playing professionally. It was at this time that she moved to the US and began to take lessons from internationally famous saxophonist Ron Brown for the next two years. Maeda continued to perform at festivals and live music sessions while garnering the attention of other musicians.

In 2015, Maeda released the album From My Soul on Victor Entertainment. This album was produced by Ricky Peterson, who has performed with the likes of David Sanborn, as well as being a pillar of Prince’s musical performances.

With her gospel roots, a widely varied musical background, and her consistently driving groove, Sarah Maeda’s music is unbound by genre.
