João Morais was born in Lisboa, Portugal in the summer of 1973 and started playing guitar in 1988 when he was 15 years old. Since then he had several bands in the Rock and Punk circuit such as Corrosão Caótica, Carbon H or Gazua.
In the spring of 2016 João started a solo project called “O GAJO” (Trans: “The DUDE”) that was inspired in some of his World Music references.
After almost 30 years playing in Rock bands with foreign guitars João needed to look for a more Portuguese sound and that’s when he started playing “Viola Campaniça”, a traditional root instrument that forms part of Portuguese centenary and cultural history.
The first record of “O GAJO” was out on the stores in the 20th of May 2017 and since then he has been playing all over the country with excellent feedback from both public and press.
