Maimu Jõgeda’s new solo album, Nordic Reflections, presents a unique fusion of original compositions and traditional folk arrangements shaped by her experiences across the Nordic countries and her Estonian heritage. Composed between 2019 and 2023 during her studies and travels in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway, the album reflects the profound impact of these landscapes and cultures on her music. The album highlights Maimu’s free-bass accordion, voice, and stomp-box, with pieces inspired by Nordic folk traditions and two adapted Estonian folk songs: "Õhtuvaikuse jõuab", a Siberian Estonian tune based on a 1997 recording, and "Joogilaul," a song from Ruhnu Island adapted from a 1967 recording. Nordic Reflections explores themes of home, belonging, and the beauty of the natural world, blending innovation with deep-rooted tradition. This recording is part of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki Folk Music Department's recording series, showcasing the artistry of its students and faculty. Recorded at the University of the Arts Helsinki Sibelius Academy StudioRecording, mix, and mastering Alec Havinmaa. Album art by Kadri Kadalipp. Release 31.01.2025. © & ℗ Maimu Jõgeda
