Claudio Celso was born in Brazil in 1955, and at the age of four he started playing guitar, influenced by his father, one of the local pioneers of jazz electric guitar in the 40’s. Claudio learned classical acoustic guitar with Alfredo Scupinari and later improved his jazz tecnique in Brazil with famous jazz guitarist Paulinho Nogueira and pianist Amilton Godoy, and in New York with Don Sebesky. His professional career launched when he was 17 as he joined the TV Tupi orchestra and the renowned Zimbo Trio, becoming a respected musical figure in the local jazz scene. In 1978, he moved to New York, living between the United States and Brazil since then. He worked with American and Brazilian jazz big names, such as Jaco Pastorius, Roberta Flack and Raul de Souza, and recorded with the talented producers Creed Taylor and Teo Macero, among others. Claudio Celso’s music style always attracted invitations for workshops and interviews in music magazines, including the recording of an instructional jazz guitar video. His previous CD was released in the United States and is performed by the main jazz radios all over the country. In the year 2000 his name was included in the list of Florida’s best musicians by the specialized critics. Always maintaining a busy music agenda between concerts and workshops in Brazil and abroad, Claudio Celso was considered one of the top guitarists in Brazil by Guitar Player Magazine in their May 2006 issue, and now he is launching his CD “Swell”, which includes smooth and beautiful compositions with a quite modern approach.
