QUINTETO: TECO CARDOSO AND LEA FREIRE Produced by Teco Cardoso and co-produced by Lea Freire, it has been recorded at Kampo Studios, NY, in Sept 30rd 1998. Mixed in San Francisco in July, 1999 and mastered in Sao Paulo in August of the same year. It gathers 8 tunes, six by Lea Freire, one by Benjamim Taubkin and other by Duke Ellington. Lea, flutist, signs the samba Sorriso do Gordo - Fat’s Smile- dedicated to Arismar do Espirito Santo; the samba-cançao Risco; the maracatu Fé (Faith); the samba Vatapa - Das Carnival with Joyce lyrics; Oxaguiã to Teco Cardoso and the waltz Maré (Tide). The repertoire is completed with Pena que a Vovó não está aqui (It is a pity that grandmother is not here) by Benjamim Taubkin - in addition with Giant Steps by John Coltrane and an arrangement for In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington.
This CD is dedicated to the long lasting friendships, which endures whole existences. In fact, all the members of the group, that includes Sylvio Mazzucca Jr on bass and AC Dal Farra on drums and percussion, have known each other for more than 20 years, resulting in a group made CD, where the arrangements are collective. Therefore the CD’s name - Quintet.
Based on this CD, Maritaca has released a partbook with the same name, containing music scores for the CD tracks.
