Composer and master kamanche exponent, Mark Eliyahu was born in 1982 in Dagastan to a musical family – his father, Piris Eliyahu, is a renowned tar player and composer – he emigrated to Israel when he was five. He studied violin but quit school aged 16 to study Turkish music and baglama with Ross Daly in Crete, where he had an epiphanic encounter with the sound of a kamanche. Seeking to learn about Persian-Azerean music, he went to Baku and spent two years with kamanche maestro Adalat Vazirov. Returning to Israel he participated in several major projects with his father, then worked as composer and performer with dance companies in Holland and Portugal. Now he's amassed admirers world-wide with his own compositions where the kamanche sings across contemporary styles, songs of eternal mystery and love.
